The Weeknd’s upcoming HBO series ‘The Idol’ adds Troye Sivan, Tunde Adebimpe and more to cast

HBO has officially picked up the Weeknd’s new series The Idol, co-written and co-created with ‘Euphoria’ creator Sam Levinson and the Weeknd’s production partner Reza Fahim,

The Idol will star the Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, and newly announced cast members Troye Sivan, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, Anne Heche, Suzanna Son, Melanie Liburd, Steve Zissis, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, and Nico Hiraga. The show’s summary reads: “Set against the backdrop of the music industry, The Idol centers on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol.”

Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming said in a statement:  “When the multi-talented Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye, Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson brought us The Idol, it was clear their subversive, revelatory take on the cult of the music industry was unlike anything HBO had ever done before.”
