Rihanna reaches billionaire status, named richest female musician by Forbes

According to a new profile on the singer and entrepreneur by Forbes, 33-year-old Rihanna has officially become a billionaire and is worth $1.7 billion. Forbes reported on Wednesday that Rihanna’s fortune comes primarily from her Fenty Beauty makeup line, which she has a 50% stake in. Rihanna’s other earnings come from her Savage x Fenty lingerie line, Fenty Skin line and her earnings as a singer and actress. Rihanna is now considered the wealthiest female musician in the world and is the second richest female entertainer in the world, behind Oprah Winfrey.

Rihanna landed a deal with French luxury group LVMH in April 2016 to launch Fenty Beauty, with a makeup line released in 2017. LVMH also partners with Rihanna on Fenty Skin. She launched her Fenty x Puma clothing line in 2016 and announced her clothing partnernship with LVMH in May 2019. Rihanna is the first woman to create an original brand at LVMH and is the first woman of color to head an LVMH maison.

On the music front, Rihanna hasn’t released an album since 2016’s ‘Anti’. She teased new music in February 2020, last appearing on PartyNextDoor’s “Believe It” in March 2020.

Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and host Ryan Seacrest set to return for Season 20 of “American Idol”

Judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie, as well as host Ryan Seacrest, are all officially returning to American Idol’s 20th season overall (and fifth on ABC) in the spring of 2022, The show’s live virtual audition tour, ‘Idol Across America,’ also returns to all 50 states beginning on Friday, August 6.

“American Idol is still the original music show that genuinely creates superstars and continues to evolve to allow true artists to succeed in this unique business,” executive producer and showrunner Megan Wolflick said. “The chemistry and passion Katy, Luke, Lionel and Ryan bring is second to none. We couldn’t be more ecstatic that they are returning for this iconic 20th season in search of the freshest new talent that this nation has to offer.”

‘Lord of the Rings’ series to premiere September 2022 on Amazon Prime

The Amazon Prime series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings will premiere on September 2nd, 2022. Amazon also released the first image from the series on Twitter, which features a mysterious character overlooking a city.

According to a release from Amazon Prime Video, filming for the currently untitled series wrapped in New Zealand on Monday. The series will be the first major adaptation of Tolkien’s books since the Peter Jackson franchise starring Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, and later Martin Freeman in The Hobbit prequel films. The new series will take place thousands of years before the events of both The Hobbit and The Lords of the Rings.

The ensemble cast for the Amazon Prime series includes Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani.

John Corbett reveals he and Bo Derek were married last year

‘Sex and the City’ star John Corbett and actress Bo Derek were married last year. Corbett appeared on the Aug. 3 episode of ‘The Talk’ and told his friend and co-host, Jerry O’Connell, that he and Bo secretly “got married” around Christmas of 2020.

“Jerry, I can’t believe that I forgot to tell you that around Christmas time we got married. Bo and I got married!”, John said, adding “You know, we’re pretty private people. We didn’t make an announcement. All our friends and family knew but, this is the first time either one of us has said anything publicly about it because really we haven’t had an opportunity. So, you’re my buddy, and now I guess I’m telling all of America or the world. After 20 years, we decided to get married. We didn’t want 2020 to be that thing that everybody looks back at and hated…let’s get one nice this out of it.”

Corbett, 60, and Derek, 64, have been together for nearly two decades; they met in 2002 after being set up on a blind date.

Take your first look at Lady Gaga in the “House of Gucci” trailer

The official trailer for the upcoming true-crime drama ‘House of Gucci,’ starring Lady Gaga, has been released.

The Ridley Scott-directed film is centered around the iconic Italian fashion family, and Gaga stars as Patrizia Reggiani, who orchestrates the murder of then-husband Maurizio Gucci, played by Adam Driver. The real Reggiani, who earned the nickname “Black Widow,” was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison for the 1995 killing. She was released in 2016.

‘House of Gucci’ is based on the 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed, written by Sara Gay Forden. Along with Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, the film also stars Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, and Salma Hayek.

Kathy Griffin recovering from surgery after revealing lung cancer diagnosis

Comedian Kathy Griffin took to social media on Monday to share that she has been diagnosed with stage one lung cancer. Shortly before going into surgery, the 60-year-old Griffin wrote that she would have “half of my left lung removed,” adding, “Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked! The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung.”

A representative for Griffin said in statement later on Monday: “Surgery went well and as planned, Kathy is now in recovery now and resting. Doctors say the procedure was normal without any surprises.”

Griffin said in her Instagram post that she’s hopeful that she won’t require chemotherapy or radiation after the surgery, adding, “I should have normal function with my breathing.”  She said her recovery time would be a month or less, writing: “It’s been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I’m gonna be just fine. Of course I am fully vaccinated for Covid. The consequences for being unvaccinated would have been even more serious. Please stay up to date on your medical check ups. It’ll save your life.”

Check out the trailer for Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” featuring Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short

Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short investigate a strange killing in the new trailer for Only Murders in the Building, a new series premiering August 31st on Hulu.

Set in a swanky apartment building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the show stars Martin, Gomez, and Short as three strangers who come together after one of their neighbors is killed. Along with trying to investigate the crime, the trio also decides to document their efforts in their own true-crime podcast.

The trailer teases an absolutely ridiculous investigation that includes Martin’s character trying to photograph his neighbors by capturing them in the background of his incredibly conspicuous selfies, and Short instructing a distraught tenant to enunciate better for the podcast. Sting even makes a cameo as a prime suspect, prompting Gomez’s character to quip, “The guy from U2?”

Martin co-created and wrote Only Murders in the Building with John Hoffman. The series will premiere with the first three episodes, with new episodes arriving every Tuesday after that.

“Jungle Cruise” tops North American box office in opening weekend with $34M

Disney’s fantasy adventure film “Jungle Cruise” was the No. 1 movie at the North American box office with a three-day estimate of 34.18 million U.S. dollars in its opening weekend. The film also earned 30 million dollars worldwide in Disney Plus Premier Access. Disney+ subscribers in the United States have the option to pay an additional, one-time 29.99 dollars fee to watch the film.

Coming in at No. 2 is The Green Knight with $6.8 million, followed by Old at No. 3 with $6.7 million, Black Widow at No. 4 with $6.4 million and Stillwater at No. 5 with $5.1 million.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, “Jungle Cruise” stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt and follows a wisecracking skipper and an intrepid researcher on a quest to discover an ancient healing tree deep in the heart of the Amazon jungle. The film is inspired by Disney’s theme park attraction of the same name. At the international box office, the film brought in 27.6 million dollars from 47 markets.

In the trailer for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” the next chapter in the “Ghostbusters” universe, director Jason Reitman delivers a story about a broke single mom (Carrie Coon) who moves her two kids (Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard) to a small town with a connection to their past.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts are set to reprise their roles from the original films, which Reitman co-wrote along with Gil Kenan. Jason Reitman is the son of director Ivan Reitman who helmed the first two films and will serve as producer on “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.”

“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” is coming to theaters on November 11th, after having been delayed multiple times due to the Covid-19 pandemic. You can check out the latest trailer – here.

Scarlett Johansson suing Disney regarding ‘Black Widow’ streaming release

Scarlett Johansson is suing the Walt Disney Company over the streaming release of ‘Black Widow.’Johansson alleges in the lawsuit that the simultaneous release of Black Widow in theaters and on Disney+ was a breach of contract.

The actress claims in the docs that she agreed her compensation for starring in Black Widow would be largely based on box office receipts generated by the film, and agreed to a theatrical release exclusive to movie theaters in order to maximize her pay. Johansson also claims Disney violated its pledge by releasing Black Widow on Disney+ on July 9, 2021, the same day it was released in theaters; she is demanding a jury trial.
