Lifetime unveiled plans for 30 new movies that will comprise its “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” lineup, scheduled to kick off in mid-October. The lineup includes “The Christmas Setup,” the network’s first film to feature a same-sex couple as its central romance.  The cast and creative team for “The Christmas Setup” has yet to be announced, however a synopsis of the film reads as follows:

“Hugo, a New York corporate lawyer and his best friend Madelyn head to Milwaukee to spend the holidays with his mom Kate, who is also in charge of the local Christmas celebrations. Ever the matchmaker, Kate arranges for Hugo to run into Patrick, Hugo’s high school friend and secret crush, who has recently returned after a successful stint in Silicon Valley.

As they enjoy the local holiday festivities together, Hugo and Patrick’s attraction to each other is undeniable and it looks as though Kate’s well-intentioned Santa-style matchmaking is a success. But as Hugo receives word of a big promotion requiring a move to London, he must decide what is most important to him.”

Lifetime’s announcement comes weeks after the Hallmark Channel pledged to include “LGBTQ storylines, characters and actors” in its holiday movie lineup.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson And Investors Buy XFL for $15 Million

tmp7b541742-9cbd-434e-a5d3-f40831d19b04-jpg

On Monday, Dwayne “The Rock Johnson and RedBird Capital teamed up to buy the XFL league just hours before a planned auction was set to begin. Johnson and RedBird Capital paid $15 million for the pro football league, splitting it evenly. Johnson’s ex-wife and business partner, Dany Garcia, will also be a stakeholder.

Johnson said in a statement: “The acquisition of the XFL with my talented partners, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale, is an investment for me that’s rooted deeply in two things – my passion for the game and my desire to always take care of the fans. With pride and gratitude for all that I’ve built with my own two hands, I plan to apply these callouses to the XFL, and look forward to creating something special for the players, fans, and everyone involved for the love of football.”

XFL President and COO Jeffrey Pollack said in a statement: “We are grateful for today’s outcome,” adding that this is a “Hollywood ending,” to the entire process and is looking forward to a “new chapter for the league.” Pollack then noted that Johnson, Garcia, and Cardinale are a “dream team ownership.”

XFL was originally set to be up for auction and it was reported a dozen bidders were looking to buy the league. With Johnson being an owner of XFL, the league will continue to have ties with WWE as Vince McMahon was the founder of the league back in 2001. The season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which then led to the league filing for bankruptcy in April after laying off all its employees.

Taylor Swift’s latest album, “Folklore,” has sold over 2 million copies worldwide in one week, setting records in the process.

“Folklore” has already broken records in the United States and worldwide. In its first day on Spotify, the album accumulated 80.6 million streams, setting a new benchmark on the platform for first-day streams by a female artist. Swift also holds the record for the female artist with the most albums debuting above 500,000 sales in the U.S., with all but her first album surpassing the mark. “Folklore” did well on Apple Music, too, breaking the 24-hour record for most-streamed pop album with over 35 million streams on its first day.
